lactose

I love milk.
I usually stick to Silk but sometimes it's not always around.

Always, without fail I end up consuming some lactose product, get an upset stomach and end up looking like this:

This awesome pencil drawing seriously resembles me either cramping or fart smelling.

I really wish this wasn't photoshopped.
I had this photo as my desktop for a hot second but I quickly removed it in fear that in an office setting it's a bit, hang in there baby.

appreciation

This:
Not this:Jean-Charles de Castelbajac

If you come across the book,The Philosophy of Andy Warhol : (From A to B and Back Again) I totally recommend reading it. Even if you're not a huge fan of Andy's work this book is hilarious and enjoyable. It's not terribly insightful but it's a quick read and very quotable. It's amazing how vain yet self deprecating he really was.
A few of my favorite Warhol quotes:
  • "I don't feel like I get germs when I hold money. . . When I pass my hand over money, it becomes perfectly clean to me."
  • "An artist is someone who produces things that people don't need to have but that he - for some reason - thinks it would be a good idea to give them."
  • "I never think that people die. They just go to department stores."
  • "Success is when the checks don't bounce."

for Naty

I just found out my best friend has chicken pox. She's beyond
bummed so I'm posting Jan Svankmajer's Alice especially for her.
But if you like surrealism, taxidermy, stop motion,Lewis Carole,
and randomness then I'm sure you'll enjoy this too.

N: I'm sending over this rabbit to soothe you in your time of pox. He'll know just what to do.

beat

My boss is constantly asking me if I'm coming down with a cold. He loves to note I'm looking a little pale and beat. I always just smile, shrug shoulders and walk away. Today I actually do feel like I look-haggard from a fast approaching cold.

The feeling this gives me is really nice and makes me want to nap.

inspiration: Joachim Froese

I just came across the work of Australia based artist Joachim Froese and my head is spinning. I haven't had such an urge to shoot since I can't remember when. Looking at these gorgeous triptychs has me longing for my 4x5 camera. Her images are stunning and the motives behind each project seem authentic and sincere. My favorite triptych photographer is still former MassArt professor David Hilliard but Joachim's work is closer to my personal aesthetic and approach to still life.

I'll certainly keep you posted if I do decided to dust off the old field camera and satisfy this urge.

(raw scan of a 4x5 negative I never printed, 2005)

Monday pretty much sucked my soul out but coming home to a spotless house has made me feel a little better.  My lovely man even cleaned under the sofa and behind the entertainment center.

bicycle portraits

Yesterday I had a minor bike incident with a pedestrian ( i swear it wasn't my fault). When I came home I was browsing the webs for an image that resembled my little crash and I stumbled upon the great work of Taliah Lempert . She is apparently the go-to for custom bicycle portraiture. I think a bespoke bike painting would be the most considerate/appreciated gift for a bicycle enthusiast. Where as I'm obviously more inclined for a pet painting I know many kids who treat their bikes like babies.

weekday link wrap up

Dear Mr. McQueen,

thanks for being so great.
I love this crazy bird feather thing.
I'd wear this in a heartbeat sans the gross lips and no eyebrows styling.

Don't you love when art inspires?

If it wasn't for Marcel Dzama, this moment would have never been captured on polaroid:
One of my bffs dressed as a Dzama character from The Berlin Years.
I know I'm not alone in loving his aesthetic but how many people can say they've made something like this? I'm moved when people are that inspired by something. And while we're on the subject of Mr. Dzama, I'm totally lusting after this crazy card game of his.

why is Thursday so long?

I take pet portraiture very seriously

This painting by Mike S. Young would go smashingly with the wine goblets I plan on registering for when I get engaged.
Also, this prego Aristo-cat is a MUST SEE
And yes Tiffany, this is how I spend my time.

I know I've said it before but, If I had to wear one outfit for the rest of my life it would have to be this sparrow suit:
How cute is this? I love everything: equestrian tweed, high rise shorts, slim jacket, ruffle chest, bird headdress, black gloves and those tights!

Please check out the Amazingness that is Andy Jordan.

melancholy party

I can't stop thinking about my upcoming birthday.
I'm excited now but I always get bummed out in the end.

Also, I'm really loving Hee Jin Kang's work.

and just 'cause it's earth day

Here's a secret: My family used to be Quadracycle people. Yea, really.
Ours was like this except 70's burnt orange & camel brown.
It was beyond cool when I was little, kinda fun in middle school then slightly embarrassing to see my dad ridding it alone while in high school.
Unfortunately my parents sold it while I was in college. I miss you weird 4 wheel bike; I wish I could ride you now.
