go outside

"When we are in nature we experience the world through all of our senses in a dynamic way, but at the same time we are framing what we see through the cultural expectations we have absorbed through representational systems such as landscape painting, wildlife documentary, and travel guides. It is impossible, then, to have a true, non-mediated experience of nature even though we may long for it." -Gregory Euclide

I'm going outside, albeit I'll make a quick stop to sbux before braving the outdoor world.

gullible gul·li·ble
–adjective
easily deceived or cheated.

credulous, trusting, naive, innocent, simple, green.

I was just duped big time.
My boyfriend just fed me a total crock of shit and I ate it gleefully. I never thought I was that gullible. We briefly paused on a Willie Nelson concert from PBS this evening. After admiring Willie's beautifully beaten up guitar, the bf doesn't skip a beat and begins telling me a story of how he met Mr. Nelson, and carved his initials into Willie's guitar. This was immediately followed by a "What? Really? I can't believe he'd let you sign it" (as I'm shocked yet excited to collect a cool random factoid to share with someone). He leads me on a bit, then waits until the camera focuses into a shot of said initials. Boom, the spotting of the B.C. engraving was met with high pitch squeals and even an ohmygod.

Turns out it was all a sham, I'm a big gullible baby and I need to not listen to a word my mister says.

What's my greatest skill?
Finding really cool and really distracting websites when I'm supposed to be studying. The uninteresting, banal and pedestrian seeks me out when I have all the time in the world. Only when I tell myself, "15 minutes of browse time" do I discover the internet honey hole.
Bah.
I'm signing off.

Gallery Etiquette

No plans for today? Spend your Saturday browsing local art galleries. Here are some useful pointers.

Gallery Etiquette

Prices: It's OK to ask
The price list (commonly referred to as the line list or checklist) is usually sheathed in plastic and kept at the main desk. If you don't see it, then politely ask for it. If there are no prices on the line list, you can ask "What is the price range for this show?". If you like those numbers then walk the show. A red dot sticker means the piece is sold. Multiple red dots means it's a print series and more than one in the series has sold. A half-dot means that there's a "hold" on the piece, just like when you put an item of clothing on hold at a department store.

Do not ask for a discount; you are not in a bazaar.

Gallery directors think carefully about the prices they charge. If they want to offer you a discount they will.

The gallery director or "gallerina" at the front desk is not there to give you an art history lesson.
Instead, ask to see the artist's biography or curriculum vitae. The gallery may refer you to a website.

No rude noises
If you don't like what you see, keep it to yourself. Don't ever say, "I could do that," because you didn't.

Don't touch
Under any circumstances. Do you like it when strangers touch you? Not only is the work fragile, oils from your hands can damage it.

Don't dawdle!
Museums and art galleries are not religious institutions. If you are bored or don't like what you see, move on. Looking at art should be fun, not a chore.

a galaxy of static & dust

According to NASA, approximately 1% of the static on a TV screen is caused by cosmic background radiation left over from The Big Bang.

I estimate that nearly 1% of the planet's dust resides in my apartment.

Are you a mod or a rocker?

Um, no. I'm a mocker.

After attempting to study, heating up some spaghetti for dinner
and restlessly flipping
through reality television I found comfort in catching A Hard Day's Night.

Sometimes classics just hit the spot.

interior spaces: gold teeth brooklyn

[apt.<span class=
Welcome to the Gold Teeth Brooklyn studios and residence where 3 creative minds and one cat call home. My dear and long time friend Jesse of GTB has agreed to give us a sneak peek into their Brooklyn nook. Jesse and her creative partner Emily established Gold Teeth a little over a year ago, with a focus on handmade screen printed greeting cards and fine art prints. Their work has quickly become a Brooklyn fixture at craft fairs and boutiques and has even been picked up by Steven Alan. The brand has recently evolved into custom jewelry and accessories. I pretty much love everything this duo makes but their studio is giving me sunlight envy.
[studio8.8.jpg]
"Emily and I have been living in this space for almost a year now and it's the first place in New York that has really felt like home...i love the overly varnished wood floors and open bright space that allows us to really spread out our work, we have great peak light in the afternoon!"
[studio25.25.jpg]
The bright and airy studio and living space is a reflection of the taste and compatibility of 3 equally talented people. The GTB girls live together with Jesse's boyfriend Alex who happens to be a hands on jack of all trades and professional welder. "Alex built me a beautiful work table with a butcher block top and a handful of great butcher block shelves that allow me to showcase my collections properly."
On top of being a budding entrepreneur and all around awesome lady, Jesse has a sharp eye for treasures. She is a born collector- I always loved visiting her folk's home in Miami that was packed with eclectic and unique odds and ends. "We have also started to accumulate old rulers which is becoming a bit of a collection...they all seem to come in handy tho when it comes to a printing project."

"I have been collecting globes for a few years now.... it all started with wanting a black ocean globe and then i just got obsessed! My mom has a fabulous flea market in Detroit where you can still find great vintage gems for barely any money."
[studio4.4.jpg]

"We tend to work with a muted color palate and simplified shapes to create everyday objects that make you smile."

[studio17.17.jpg]
"It has been a lot of fun starting a business all on our own, watching it grow and seeing positive responses from people is extremely encouraging. It is a huge challenge at times and we are both quite new to the business end of things but are learning a ton and feel that there is nothing more rewarding than creating something that you are proud of"

free money

[PattySmith.jpg]

Every night before I rest my head

See those dollar bills go swirling 'round my bed.
I know they're stolen, but I don't feel bad.
I take that money, buy you things you never had.

Oh, baby, it would mean so much to me,
Oh, baby, to buy you all the things you need for free.
I'll buy you a jet plane, baby,
Get you on a higher plane to a jet stream
And take you through the stratosphere
And check out the planets there and then take you down
Deep where it's hot, hot in Arabia, babia, then cool, cold fields of snow
And we'll roll, dream, roll, dream, roll, roll, dream, dream.
When we dream it, when we dream it, when we dream it,
We'll dream it, dream it for free, free money,
Free money, free money, free money, free money, free money, free money.
