Lilli Carre
I love Lilli's work, especially my This American Life poster.
Her moving drawings are making my eyes so happy.
I plan on recreating this little scene with a bottle of Guggenheim malbec.

mini obsession: geodes

Rachel Pfeffer Designs: monstrous geode knuckle ring

It's a slippery slope into art mom and school counselor territory but I don't care.

one of those mornings

didn't wake up early enough to wash my hair✓
wearing the same beat outfit I do every Thursday✓
coffee came out bitter✓
I got pulled over for taking a yellowRED ✓
WTF, actually laughed out loud at today's Onion calendar page?✓

On mornings like this I just listen to Yeasayer's Tightrope on repeat:

Giveaway: Taschen Simple Diary

Dear memelodia readers and passerbys,
Welcome to my first blog giveaway. I am excited to share this Taschen Phillipp Keel Simple Diary with you. The diary I'm offering up is in White (of course) and very slick. It's the perfect little companion for non committal people who like to occasionally capture life's moments. It's basically a mash-up of a journal, a multiple choice quiz, Twitter, Mad Libs, and a sketchbook. All you have to do is leave a comment stating your favorite website or blog crush. Make sure I have a way to get in touch with you in case you're the lucky chosen winner. I will pick someone at random next Wednesday October 14th.
Good luck,
Melody

Why Simple Diary?
There are three reasons why most people, although they have tried, won't keep a diary:

1. Not every day is very eventful.
2. It actually takes a lot of discipline to write.
3. In retrospect, many find what they have written embarrassing.

Keel's Simple Diary offers structure for those who don't have time to wonder, making it easy to record life's moments. It gives the pleasure of a quick response and the sense that no matter what's wrong, more is right. On every page you will discover a taste of philosophy, a pinch of psychology and a twist of insight.

wowmygod

Oh my god.
Sarah-Jane Lynagh.

I was just browsing through designboom and then, BOOM I spotted these ridiculous heart pounding out of my chest where have you been all my life photographs.
Why have I never come across Sarah's body of work? I can't stop staring at these. Not only do I love them, and wish I had shot these but I kinda feel like I would be great friends with someone as totally bonkers as her.
Dear darkness, won't you cover me again, 2008
Photographic Print; 90cm x 120cm

I could have easily posted all of her photos but I decided to feature this one. It's tripe! I use tripe as an adjective all the time. Never mind the fact that these are shot beautifully and they're repulsive yet striking...there's actually someone willing to pose with these discarded animal entrails. From experience I know shots like these aren't quick to compose. There's some serious dedication there. Ah, I love it.
Check out some of the retardo comments DB readers left:
  • "Sick!"
  • "Such grossness and unglam the image of designboom! PLEASE take this off!"
  • "ugly."
Reading comments like this gives me the yucks a million times more than the photos do. WTF do people want--all work to look like LeLove and COL material?
