Monday links

It's been a long while since I had the time to get lost on the internets and curate some links.
Sit back and enjoy my idle time.

Good Magazine: foods that might make you sick

I'd like fault the threat of poisoning by leafy green for my decision to binge at burgerking today.
But, in reality, last night's rush to the vet after Parker suffered what appears to be a mild seizure is partly to cause for my insatiable onion ring craving.
I usually gravitate to the fatty foods when under stress. Thankfully the baby is doing alright-- poor thing apparently has *low blood sugar.
*Note to self: Don't sympathy eat for her.

I love: Hendrick's

A few reasons why I love Henrick's Gin: It doesn't taste like Christmas trees (like most gin does), it's made of Bulgarian rose and cucumber, the old timey art and aesthetic branding is awesome (monty python much?), Originality, the bottle looks like a vintage medicine vessel, they host croquete challenges and are trying to reinstate it as an Olympic sport, and they have dedicated a website to The Unusual.

Check out their gin limericks: Excuse me bartender, there's a poem in my gin.
Gin and the Bore

“A gin is a gin is a gin
swore the bore
nothing odd can be.”

But if that gin should win eleven botanicals in
oh, then what a gin it would be.

So we tricked him in bed,
gave him Hendrick’s instead
then fully sober, he shouted with glee

“this gin is not gin like others that be
yet it tastes even more like gin to me.”

*When I'm thinking of cocktails at 2 in the afternoon I know it's time to look for a new job.
** Update: It's almost 6 and I'm going home to have hendricks, st.germain and cukes. Yay me!

I <3 you honey

Ever since my bf introduced me to Judi Harvest's work I've been obsessing about owning one of her Colony Collapse Disorder hive pieces.
It seems like CCD is something that has been occupying a lot of people's minds. I've come across some really interesting Bee themed treasures lately.

Giant Japanese Hornet Honey via edible
The Giant Japanese Hornet is the largest species of wasp in the world, and it contains special enzymes in its body which are reputed to increase strength and energy levels. Giant Japanese Hornets have one of the most incredible stamina’s of any living creature and this stamina can be temporarily passed into the system of those who consume it.

The Abandoned Comb Amulet via black sheep & prodigal sons
The necklace is a bittersweet collaboration with nature: a honeycomb pendant sculpted by bees, crafted of solid 18 karat gold and captured in honey. A choice must be made to forcefully exhume the honey-drenched gold, violently shattering and consuming its casing, or to recognize value in its current form, nurturing a natural deterioration and the gradual revelation of treasure within.

Bompas & Parr: Architectural Jelly

WOWZERS! is all i have to say about Bompas & Parr. This is a perfect example of taking an idea to the next level and exploring all the possibilities available. I love when people take one or two things and perfect them.

"Bompas & Parr creates fine English jellies, designs bespoke jelly moulds and curates spectacular culinary events.

The work of Bompas & Parr operates in the space between food and architecture. Our projects explore how the taste of food is altered through synaesthesia, performance and setting. Currently the focus of our research is jelly: jelly is the perfect site for an examination of food and architecture due to its uniquely plastic form and the historic role it has played in exploring notions of taste."

Ebay find: Daily Paintings

I'm totally loving the idea of daily paintings . There seem to be several fine artists using Ebay to sell and feature their one off daily paintings. Usually some painters will fiddle around with still-life to practice and train them selves,so these items tend to be small and reasonably affordable. I'm a sucker for miniature pieces and food related imagery. Make it small and about something organic and familiar and I'm all over it. Here are a few selections from various sellers on Ebay:
