unveiling

I just came across this painting of Bush from the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian:
My immediate though was this: check out this great article about art and politics from art21.

lust items

I'm seriously trying to save up to buy my very own apartment this year. With that said I won't be splurging on those "I neeeeed that or I will DIE " items anytime soon. Of course, I'm still going on internet browsing sprees and stumbling across too many amazing treasures. Here are a few random items that are on my not-shopping queue:
Wooden Laptop Case by Rainer Spehl18k white gold knot ring by Roberto Marroni via KabiriAny piece by Melanie Bilenker
Armi boot by Minna Parikka
Recycled Green Glass Bottle tumblers by Pottery BarnTwo Mounted Mooks by ilovegreyskies"Stylish" Danish Bike Helmet by Yakkay
I am fully aware that I don't need any of these items. I truly suffer from 'iliketoomanythings-itis".

craigslist find: vintage credenza

I'm totally swamped today but I did manage to squeeze in a few minutes of craigslist browsing.
This mid-century modern credenza is a pretty nice find at only $100:

If my apartment was bigger than a matchbook I'd pick this up.

I <3 Polaroid

I know I'm in good company when I say: Polaroid is the greatest thing ever! In honor, I'm posting a few of my favorite polaroid shots. Most of these were taken with an sx70 camera between 2001-2005.

Amazing Find: This must be designed by idiots

Honest to god, I felt my heart stop for a bit when I first came across the work of design duo This must be designed by idiots.

"A contemporary touch is given to the classical memento mori concept, questioning the way the world nowadays seems to be determined by nothing else than just marketing. In a constantly twisting play between fantasy and reality Idiots emphasizes the borderline between life and death."

I'm loving my good friend Tiffany's new Dexter inspired jewelry line:This blood splatter needlepoint collection is still in it's infancy but i LOVE where she's going with it.

new clothing inspiration

I've been noticing an obvious shift in my clothing interests. I have been recently drawn to a more sophisticated yet playful style that is a mix of old school secretary, Victorian child and playful girlishness. I've been on the hunt for a cute vintage pair of saddle shoes and on Friday I won these oxford wingtips from Ebay.
An other recent acquisition is this rapscallion romper by Samantha Pleet for Urban Outfitters.
I've picked up a few other pieces from her spring and fall collections and I am in love!
Continuing with this new look inspiration: this grosgrain black bow headband from XXI has been making several appearances on my head lately. The one thing I do hope to avoid is resembling Lucy Van Pelt or Diane Arbus' grenade boy:
I tend to gravitate to somewhat precious and costume-y looks so I need to keep these images in mind as a point of reference.

I wish thrifting was a sport

One of my all time favorite things to do is thrift. Like serious down and dirty dusty bargain hunt. These gorgeous photographs by Brian Ulrich celebrate the beauty of thrifting, objects, display, desire and waste:2006, thrift chapter from the copia series; blog,
This weekend I totally plan on checking out Stoneage Antiques thanks to swampstyle. Miami has a few really great thrift stores, antique malls and swap meets sprinkled through out the city. I'm presently on the hunt for a clean(ish) vintage secretary's chair and office furniture like these bellow from Twenty Gage:

These series of chairs are designed for outdoor café or restaurants and public spaces. The collection includes three chairs and a table. One chair has a compartment for belongings behind the seat, another incorporates space for a laptop or briefcase in the arm and the third has a hook for keeping a coat and accessories our of the way and off the floor. This is a series of some simple chairs that discreetly merge our little needs in public space.
