Barbara Gallucci

Designer, photographer, sculptor and SMFA professor (kicking myself for not taking one of her classes) Barbara Gallucci has a fascinating and diverse body of work. RANCH ‘50 (The Levittown interiors) :

Between the years of 1947 and 1951 there were 17,000 identical homes built in Levittown, Long Island. But it was only the 1950 ranch house that came with a television built into the living room wall, underneath the staircase. Over the years the televisions broke down and since the 1950 Admiral was no longer being manufactured, ranch house owners were left with identical ‘Holes’ in their walls. The challenge of what to do with the ‘Hole’ began to creep up and residents responded with a variety of customized solutions. These photographs document the ‘RANCH ‘50’ TV walls in their current incarnations.

las frutas

So I finally decided to make a fruit post. Anyone who knows me is aware of my love for fruit and fruit related imagery. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing sometimes. As I browse through the wondrous internet I occasionally spot and save some sweet finds. Below are just a few including my personal work:

My arm done by Corey Kruger of Good Faith Tattoo in Boston. I fully recommend him.
the meateaters framed print $350

fruit speaker pillows; i soooo need one right now.

headdresses by birdie for fabric horse

Naoto packaging via dieline; I want to touch that berry skin

400 horse power #1&2; Nick Paparone; zexy

my current babies (gd urban! I got these lil fruit heads years ago on ebay)

and yup, I'll most likely put my future babies through this.

I'm sure this fruit post won't be the last-I so have to show you guys where I got my tattoo inspiration from and the f@#%& crazy fruity things my friends send me in care packages.

a little Moz in the morning

I woke up with Cemetry Gates by the Smiths in my head today. I listened to it 3 times on the way to work. A little Morrissey can brighten up any Wednesday.

unlucky bunny

"Unlucky Bunny", Laura Plansker
I can't imagine the work that went into this scene, the lighting and set design is spot on.

This photograph makes me reconsider wearing *my rabbit foot necklace-for a few moments.
*as seen at the bottom of this post.

nice find: Margot Bergman

Margot Bergman reuses thrift store and flea market paintings to create haunting and surrealistic scenes.

good things

Goodnight, John-Boy-this makes me smile.

A few other things making my Monday:
F Scott Fitzgerald's bag

Interior Spaces: Berlin-Tiffany

I couldn't be away for too long!
I want to focus on an untapped resource: my amazingly talented and creative friends. Obviously inspired by the Selby and D*sponge sneak peaks, I am going to showcase the interesting interior spaces of some dear friends and colleagues. Fortunately I have some cool cats spread across the globe so there should be some diversity and great finds.
Here we have Tiffany a Miami/NYC transplant in Germany currently a photographer, globe trotter & creative problem solver with PERES PROJECTS Berlin. Once the sun finally made a long awaited appearance she was able to share her space with us. I am absolutely loving her chic, simple airy bedroom and organic decorative features. If I had to classify this style I'd say it was hipster bohemian chic-which is a very eclectic way of saying awesome p.o.v.
Reclaimed tree branch as clothes hanger and semi circle of shoes

Desk made from two old thick saw horses "borrowed" from a nearby market with a simple slab of wood on top. This $20 DIY looks like it would sell at DWR for $$$.sea shell collecting-a touch of home
Cacti! No space is complete with out some green.
desk detail and one of her modular origami creations
vintage "wander rucksacks" as wall decorationcharming old fashoined buoy and old italian wine jug
I love white on white and the traditional handmade Greek death bread"curved olive branches" hanging above door.
I love looking at other people's stuff.
Thanks for sharing Tiff!

Molly McIntyre- my new favorite.

I appreciate the awesome comments from my earlier post. I want to assure you that I am in no way planning to quit memelodia. I am too obsessed with browsing the internets and discovering new art and incredible design objects that I want to splurge on. I just want to rehash some thoughts and work on some special features and personal projects for the blo g. No one wants to breath their own exhaust fumes ya know.
Have a great weekend.

hiatus

I'm planning on taking a brief but much needed break from blogging. I need to collect my thoughts and come back with some freshness.
(We'll see how long I can hang.)

feeling guilty

I just showed some McDonald's chicken nuggets who's boss.

Painting from Vika Prokopaviciute's before and after fastfood series.

If you have about an hour...

or more to kill and you enjoy looking at things then I suggest browsing through the Wisconsin Historical Society website. The curators' list of favorite curiosities and vintage objects is fascinating. You can check out such treasures like this asbestos baby bottle warmer:
