vacay

I'm going on a cruise to the Bahamas this Friday. Yea, really.
It's my parent's 40th wedding anniversary so we're all packing up and celebrating on the water. I wasn't overly enthusiastic about the trip at first but now I can't stop thinking about it. My mind has been wandering all afternoon. These restored vintage vacation flicks have been fueling my daydreams.

truisms

I love revisiting art, books, and films. You often grow and interpret things differently or catch some subtlety. Jenny Holzer's truisms are a perfect example of work that reads way differently to me than when first introduced. I'm more of a jaded cynic now than I was in art school.
My desk jockey days have changed my perspective on several of these trusisms.

A LOT OF PROFESSIONALS ARE CRACKPOTS
ABSOLUTE SUBMISSION CAN BE A FORM OF FREEDOM
ABUSE OF POWER COMES AS NO SURPRISE
ACTION CAUSES MORE TROUBLE THAN THOUGHT
ALIENATION PRODUCES ECCENTRICS OR REVOLUTIONARIES
AT TIMES INACTIVITY IS PREFERABLE TO MINDLESS FUNCTIONING
BOREDOM MAKES YOU DO CRAZY THINGS
CONFUSING YOURSELF IS A WAY TO STAY HONEST
DREAMING WHILE AWAKE IS A FRIGHTENING CONTRADICTION
EXPIRING FOR LOVE IS BEAUTIFUL BUT STUPID
HUMANISM IS OBSOLETE
HUMOR IS A RELEASE
IT IS MAN'S FATE TO OUTSMART HIMSELF
LACK OF CHARISMA CAN BE FATAL
LOVING ANIMALS IS A SUBSTITUTE ACTIVITY
MUCH WAS DECIDED BEFORE YOU WERE BORN
MURDER HAS ITS SEXUAL SIDE
OFTEN YOU SHOULD ACT LIKE YOU ARE SEXLESS
PEOPLE WHO DON'T WORK WITH THEIR HANDS ARE PARASITES
ROMANTIC LOVE WAS INVENTED TO MANIPULATE WOMEN
SLIPPING INTO MADNESS IS GOOD FOR THE SAKE OF COMPARISON
SLOPPY THINKING GETS WORSE OVER TIME
TAKING A STRONG STAND PUBLICIZES THE OPPOSITE POSITION
THE IDEA OF REVOLUTION IS ADOLESCENT FANTASY
THE MOST PROFOUND THINGS ARE INEXPRESSIBLE
TIMIDITY IS LAUGHABLE
WISHING THINGS AWAY IS NOT EFFECTIVE

F is for Fondling my Fatty bits during Fruity Foreplay

I don't want to sound like some wolf crier but oh my god did I flip out when I discovered this work. This piece in particular stopped me dead in my tracks. I have yet to come across an illustration that is more me. I'm crazy about fruits (obviously), I love clean linear drawings, dream about long hair and I obsess over my 'fatty bits'. My partner in crime has been away for the past 6 days and I totally plan on recreating this scene when he gets back.

bird folks

My bf calls me chick-o-dee on occasion and I call him coo-coo bird. I squealed when i spotted these old bird people illustrations. I hope we look slightly less dumpy as geriatric lover birds.
