I wish I thought of that

Have you ever seen something so awesome and clever that it made you say, "Fuck, I wish I made that!"? I hate/ love those moments. After a recent conversation with bud Tiffany where she admitted she was annoyed with herself for not shooting an obvious budgies series, I came to think about all the things I've seen that have made me feel that way. Although I lack the skill and artistic dexterity to create detailed sculptural pieces I have always dreamed of exploring a world outside of paper and light.

This "excessory-baggage" piece by Meryl Smith is one of those items that made my heart flutter and wish I had made myself.
This oh so lux animal crawled out of my head. Words can't express how badass I find this puppy vuitton purse. The next best thing to actually creating this would be owning it and appreciating it I guess.
Materials: metal screen, paper mache, leather, gold paint, zipper
I made "excessory baggage" for a group exhibition at The Honey Space, where 5 curators asked artists to create sculptures that fit the measurement requirements for international carry-on luggage.

What drives you crazy?
People who don't bother thinking. People who say, "I should have thought of that but I just didn't think." I see kids today with these wires in their ears listening to noise all day and I wonder, how can they think?

Annie Tung

If there's one thing i know for sure it's that I drool over preciousness. I love when artists explore preservation and encapsulate objects with meaning or non meaning. I think this Heirloom series by Annie Tung is a great example of that. Although I'm not too keen on touching other people's hair I find these pieces very special.

happy Friday and Valentines day weekend!

Valentines Day usually involves doing something cute and date-ish. If you have a chance this weekend I totally recommend watching Synedoche, New York.  It's not your typical date movie but it's pretty sweet and will certainly inspired conversation.
surprisingly romantic
One of the lead characters, Adele is an artist who creates these impossibly tiny paintings. Of course I can't get these miniature works off my mind.
If it's playing in your area I totally suggest seeing it right away. I'm shocked it's not being shown on a large scale national level.

I <3 you honey

Ever since my bf introduced me to Judi Harvest's work I've been obsessing about owning one of her Colony Collapse Disorder hive pieces.
It seems like CCD is something that has been occupying a lot of people's minds. I've come across some really interesting Bee themed treasures lately.

Giant Japanese Hornet Honey via edible
The Giant Japanese Hornet is the largest species of wasp in the world, and it contains special enzymes in its body which are reputed to increase strength and energy levels. Giant Japanese Hornets have one of the most incredible stamina’s of any living creature and this stamina can be temporarily passed into the system of those who consume it.

The Abandoned Comb Amulet via black sheep & prodigal sons
The necklace is a bittersweet collaboration with nature: a honeycomb pendant sculpted by bees, crafted of solid 18 karat gold and captured in honey. A choice must be made to forcefully exhume the honey-drenched gold, violently shattering and consuming its casing, or to recognize value in its current form, nurturing a natural deterioration and the gradual revelation of treasure within.

Bompas & Parr: Architectural Jelly

WOWZERS! is all i have to say about Bompas & Parr. This is a perfect example of taking an idea to the next level and exploring all the possibilities available. I love when people take one or two things and perfect them.

"Bompas & Parr creates fine English jellies, designs bespoke jelly moulds and curates spectacular culinary events.

The work of Bompas & Parr operates in the space between food and architecture. Our projects explore how the taste of food is altered through synaesthesia, performance and setting. Currently the focus of our research is jelly: jelly is the perfect site for an examination of food and architecture due to its uniquely plastic form and the historic role it has played in exploring notions of taste."

Equus Collection

If money weren't an object and I had friends who were in the same monetary position then I'd surely register for this lust worthy Equus collection by Lladró (whenever that time came).
I love the playful elegance of these saucers, dishes and accessories.

Re-Cyclos is a creative proposal of new and evocative
works made from Lladró’s classic figurines. Lladró Re-Cyclos Magical by Bodo Sperlein came into being when the porcelain brand invited prestigious designers from all over the world to reinterpret its creations.EQUUS, recently presented at Paris as one of the new introductions this season. Bodo Sperlein uses the legs, heads and hoofs of Lladró horses to create witty tabletop accessories. Coffee cups and saucers, a teapot, a bowl or a butter dish and knife comprise this original series of accessories for decorating tables with a touch of elegance and innovation. Apart from the horse elements, this collection is particularly noteworthy for the hand-painted elements in grey tones.
