This year's Art Basel Miami came and went. I'm sad that it's all over. My brain is still processing the sensory overload. We had a great time prowling all over the city in search for good art, free drinks and exclusive parties. There was some amazing, some meh. and some atrociousness this weekend but all in all it was a whirlwind. I was pleased to see some favorite art pieces in person and meet/fall in love with Canadian artists Ziz & Gordy, my new Caesar drinking cohorts.
Here are a few camera phone snaps from this past weekend:

consumed by basel

Hasta las narices, 2006
digital print; 75 x 100 cm

Totally preoccupied with all this art basel frazzle.
How's one supposed to get any work done when there are so many events to keep up with? Today's my Mom's birthday so I'm trying to plan my party hopping accordingly. Woe is me.

wall worthy?

I scored this free limited edition Shep Fairey screen print at his supertouch art basel party last week. Let me just tell you, people were getting pretty nasty once the tote bags that carried cds and large print tubes ran out. I actually had someone try to snatch one off my shoulder! Anyways, so I love getting free things more than anyone-and I especially love finding special and limited pieces. I was planning on getting this framed for our home office but my bf absolutely hates it. He thinks it's really tacky and that I only like it because it was free.
Thoughts?
Is this print worth displaying or just storing away for nostalgia sake?

great cause: paperlove

A4 lantern by Naoto Fukasawa
Via Luminaire paperlove
"Wads of paper- it's taken for granted that paper will be there in the office and around us. I felt that this was the epitome of an ICON for paper. "

PAPERLOVE was an auction of one-of-a-kind pieces of art with the main medium as paper from world-renowned designers, architects and artists. The pieces were auctioned on Saturday during ABMB for cancer research. Most items are still on display at Luminaire.

ABMB wind down

So it's a wrap for this years Basel and I am exhausted. There's no way to catch every show but I did manage to see a lot. Here are just a few pieces that I saw that I wish I'd taken home with me.

Amazing book: 55 surprise by visionaire

I'm dying to check out the new artist and designer inspired pop-up book by Visionaire at this years ABMB. It looks beautifully executed.

Andreas Gursky

Check out this insightful article just posted by ARTLURKER:
DEATH OF A PARTY? Will Miami’s nightlife prosper over Art Basel Miami Beach or do
es the current economic instablity have yet more far reaching effects in store for Miami’s art community?

looking forward to: FRIENDSWITHYOU

It's almost time for Art Basel!!! Included in the laundry list of exhibits and events I want to attend I am looking forward to seeing the FriendsWithYou “Fun House" installation.
Fun House is an interactive exhibition for the lounge of SCOPE MIAMI 2008 in which a giant bounce house presiding over a village of mystical counterparts will aim to unlock the untold healing potential of fun.
The Fun House bounce house will be the center piece in a vast array of interactive structures that will stimulate visitors’ inner children through interplay with the work’s uncommon sense of transparency- custom furniture and zany sounds will further reinforce the lounge’s centralized theme.
