window shopping

Been doing a little online browsing this AM. Why is window shopping so satisfying? I love that the holidays are fast approaching so I can justify all the time I spend online filling up my fantasy shopping carts. I seriously agonize while I do it but I love it so much.
A few items I'm tempted to buy my buddies so far:
great packaging deadstock jump-rope
a little pee comes out cards
Titanic vs. Iceberg soaps
vegan treat samplers
Both images sourced from sarah kate's photostream

creative bike adornment

I'm so excited to be working together on a project with Tiffany of Heist and bridesmaid knuckle ring fame. We're working in tandem on a little surprise for my bike. Her indelible trampstamp must be concealed. Combining my creative direction, Tiff's skills with bronze, Harcourt Bindery in Boston, and the awesomeness that is Ovis aries orientalis it's sure to be amazing!
I can't wait to see how it develops.

Parker's Halloween costume

This year she's going as William Hundley's chihuahua on burger!
A marriage of all the things I love: chiwas, burgers & the internet.

The burgers didn't take too long to construct. Getting Parker to trust me again will probably take a bit longer though.

Stitch Wars

This weekend I plan on checking out Bear and Bird Gallery's adorable "Stitch Wars" exhibition in Lauderhill. Here are some highlights from their Flickr page:
Pinkypunk (Pachy Sarmiento);Chewbacca
Synthetic Fur, Felt, and Fleece Fabrics; 56" tall
Kit Lane; Jabba the Hut: The Early Days
99.99% Wool, Glass Eyes, Beads, and Cotton Floss; 7"x5"Dianna Oates,Thanks Lucas
Cotton and PMC Floss;11”x14”
John Lacko,Chewie is My Co-Pilot
Felt, Embroidery Thread, and Wood;11"x16"x2.5"

I read about this show a couple weeks ago but I'm sure it will more enjoyable to see the work with out a hoard of star wars clad opening nighters standing around. I'm most excited to see Patchy's humongous Chewie [seen posed above]. I have been meaning to commission her to make Ben and I some custom dolls. Just one more thing on my long bespoke list.

needle&craft

I don't know why but I've always really loved looking at vintage sewing patterns and craft catalogs. I can't tell you how many dusty and dogeared 25 cent sewing patterns I have at my parent's house. (I swore I would make those rompers and swing skirts every time.)
These scanned images from a 1971 fall/winter Ladie's Home Journal needle&craft magazine are making my 5 o'clock.

exciting folk art

Sometimes I truly surprise myself in what I find intriguing.  I've never been interested in folk art or craft but lately I've noticed a slight interest in folksy decorative pieces.
I recently came across the work of Joanna Blitch. She works in several medias but I'm really digging her stoneware mask pots. This fox mask might pair nicely with some of my other animal art.
Nothing gets more folk and Americana-ish than wolf imagery. This hand carved hemlock wood mask by  Jason Tennant  has a great presence.
Although the wolf mask is totally badass-these hand carved black crows are way more my style and practical.  I think these birds would look great displayed on high ceilings.
And lastly I'm absolutely in love with this modern take on folky plate paintings by Barret Stanley, Joanna Blitch's husband.  Theses glazed stoneware plates are so subtle and would compliment my present collection without taking it in some weird crafty direction.  I'm very tempted to pick up "temp" and portrait of "Jacques Cousteau".
