Cotidianidades

I'm wrapping up a few long over due carepackages this afternoon. I want to take some cues from this amazing paper installation series. I need more discipline in my life.

Lola is a former student of the EFTI photography school in Madrid. She physically wraps everything in her scenes in clean, white paper. She is using her own domestic spaces and is interested in ideas of safety, security and protection of and within the home. Beautiful and thought provoking!

inspiration: Sandrine Pelletier

Next weekend that I stay in I'm promising myself I'll start and finish a project. We are useless unless we make things with our hands.

warm habitation

I love this burrower knitwear series. Is this not the most novel idea? I think anyone with a tiny fur tot can appreciate this.

In a few hours I'll be flying up to Boston to meet up with the in-laws for a chilly white Christmas. I'll be traveling with a very bundled up Chihuahua. I usually take Parker in her dog bag but she ends up nestling into my sweater mid way trip. She's mastered the art of burrowing into warm soft things. I need to knit up something to sling this critter around with me in style.

unrequited love

Kathatina's work which I just spotted at for me, for you reminds me of the Spiel & Holz wooden puzzles I fell in love with while in Berlin.

It wasn't love at first sight but my appreciation for these beautiful handmade puzzles grew more in the few days I was in Germany. The idea of having to lug around a huge pointy ended wooden thing on my back while ridding around on cobble stone roads wasn't appealing. It wasn't until the last couple days of my stay that I felt compelled to bring one home with me. Then of course, as with all of my Murphy's blessed luck, the day I went back to the tiny children's boutique they were closed. Alas, I filled my suitcase with other treasures. Life went on.
I think these puzzles were resting dormant in my impulsive shopping frontal lobe because as soon as I scrolled through Katharina's body of work I felt an immediate need to search for these again. As I do with any item that tickles my fancy I completely justify it. These things are multitaskers: They can be displayed as an ever shifting wall adornmnet and then later be perfect for my far off into the future babies. I can even still consider it a travel momento. Ta-Dah.

I haven't picked one up yet but I'm gunning for the 16.5" geometric spiral seen above.

Parker's Halloween costume

This year she's going as William Hundley's chihuahua on burger!
A marriage of all the things I love: chiwas, burgers & the internet.

The burgers didn't take too long to construct. Getting Parker to trust me again will probably take a bit longer though.

little boxes

The teensie apartment flooded over the weekend.
Like really really flooded, with busted pipe sewer water. Not too much was destroyed- just a few special things got water damaged. Flooding is traumatizing. We have to move now. I'm not thrilled about this but I look forward to decorating a new space kinda.
Now we have to search for a new dry little box to make our own.

I bet one of these was named Duchess

If this dashing pug gives you the tingles down in that funny place then you will definitely enjoy visiting Hamshere gallery.

They have one of the largest Canine & Equestrian antique jewelery collections and dog paintings dating from 1800 to 1940. It's no secret that I spend my free time browsing dog art. Hamshere gallery is a trifecta for me: vintage baubles, canine portraiture, and precious- gaudiness. I wanted to post all of their dapper canine brooches but I held back .

pony up

"Seventeen horses have been mysteriously slaughtered and butchered in Miami since January. The SPCA suspects the killings are feeding a black market for horse meat." Every time I hear this horse murder coverage I let out a little neigh. I was never a pony obsessed child but I do appreciate a well made equine piece and I'd never ingest their meat.
